Sand Dollar$

If i am not mistaken sand dollars are a cold water species. And yes it is illegal to collect any thing from the beach with out a permit.

i didnt ask if it was legal or not, i live on the ocean. I was asking about putting them in tank! Drinking and driving is illegal too, but a lot of people do it!

I think they don't survive long eneough in captivity. They will eat everything and then die..sort of like a sand sifting starfish.

Putting them in tank is collecting..why would you harm the ecosystem you are trying to recreate in your home? Collecting from beaches is illegal for a reason..

again that was not the quesion

Still I believe that they are a cold water species. They will not be able to handle the warmer temps of the water. And they are very hard to keep.

We have millions of them here in the summer time when the water is about 86. That is when they are alive and everywhere! I dont think the water temp thing has anything to do with it! Thanks exacta123! I didnt want to be an a.. and say it again!

Some guy had a thread on here awhile back where he took some sand from the beach to seed his tank and 8 month later he found a bunch of sand dollars thriving in his tank.. So I guess people can do it..
