Has any one used them in thier reef? Will I have problems with my rock shifting? how long do they live?

I think Ron Shimek said 16 sq. feet of sand per sand dollar ... thats open sand to so plan on having a tank that is 12 + feet long with barely any rocks. And even if you did have 16 sq. feet of sand they have a short lifespan and will knock over rockwork.
