I've got a bit of both Cyano and Dino, but it really does not matter as the causes would appear the same. My question is this, can adding supplements be the cause? I have been told that adding Mg, KH and CA in liquid form in this way can cause an Ionic imbabalance that would lead to bacterial growth such as that of Cyano/Dynos. Any imput form anyone?
I'm really at the end of my teather on this one:
-All my readings are 0 or undetectable, including phospahate, tested today on the sensitive (and expensive) D+D kit.
-My RO is through a 4 stage with new filters and DI and has always given 0 on TDS.
-Flow is around 30X, stuff grows in some of most high flow areas as well as low flow..so flow not problem.
-Cyano/Dynos grow maily on sand but starting to grow on rock in some places too.
-I feed a third of a cube of frozen daily, rinsed in RO.
-I use Rowaphos, changed every week.
-KH is between 6.5-7 (Salifert kit is hard to read exactly)
-Mg is 1400
-Ca is 410
-I use D+D salt but have had periods without this problem when using same salt so don't think this is the issue.
-Have two acros, blue and green, red monti, Hammer coral, blue branching monti, red goniopora, pipe coral, duncan coral and a few zoos and softies, all are doing very well, good coloring on the SPS.
-I do a 15% water change every week
-Can't really stop dosing as Mg/Ca especially drop even with these large water changes.
