sand sifting shrimp???

i bought another fish today, some crabs, snails, and a "sand sifting shrimp"

i just googled it and i didnt find much on it. granted, its a nano tank and we have fun with it with the kids. so a $8.00 shrimp isnt killing me, and nothing to worry coral wise in the tank. but what is it actually, or is it another pet store gimmick inhabitant? i put him in the tank, and he found a cozy spot, and sifted the sand and disappeared. that was cool! the ones in the tank at the store hid around and the one we got was swimming around checking things out. any help, thanks, i usually like to get some info on these things.

here in Florida, we see a couple species of 'common shrimp' that behave as you mentioned. Their habits are largely nocturnal, with only their eyes appearing most often, unless food is introduced in the tank. A pic would help, but you might google the scientific names below and see if they resemble your new tank mate. You might find that they have a large appetite, and will molt their skeleton as they grow...good luck-
