hi all, I have had a sand sifting star for many months and for the past two weeks it has seemd sick. limp arms, not nearly as mobile, not digging into the sand and hanging out on the glass.

I am used to things getting sick and quickly dying in this environment but lingering for 2 weeks? seems odd.

any opinions on whats happening? slowly starving?:(

Sand sifting star are one of the starfish better left in the wild. They have the benefit of stirring the sandbed as they course through, but they are having a field day eating the pods and tiny critters that make your sandbed live. Once they fully decimate this sandbed, they will slowly starve and dissolve. And they can create one terrible ammonia mess for any other of your livestock.

I still find it hard why people still sell these starfish, they may be dirt cheap, but not worth plunking down the money for it.

yes i got one for my 40 that was 5 months old then i found out my tank was too small, not old enough, and the star fish would run out of food and die.
