Sand size

Sand grain size is available for between .2 and 4.mm grain size for reef systems.

What do you use and why?

What have your results been?

I have always used an argonite with grain sizes up to 1.2m but the idea of a large grain would hopefully mean less being blown around.

Thanks for the help.

Well, I just started a 60 with 3700 gph total flow (for now) and decided to use Carib Sea Oolite, which has a grain size of 0.1 - 1.0 mm. I haven't had any problems with it and I love the look.

I've started using different grades in different regions of the tank depending on the flow pattern. Areas that are having the fine sand kicked up frequently get covered in a larger grade.
