is it ok to put a new bag of live sand in an already asablished aquarium? will this cause any skipes? can i prevent that from happening? and help would be great. thanks guys!

dose anyone know if this is ok to do? i dont want to mess up my tank. i have a slooter blenny and mushroom corals in there.

You should be able to add the sand to your tank fine. Make sure that you rinse the sand well and then don't just pour it in the top use a plastic cup and place the sand in the bottom so you don't stir up much of a cloud. If you have liverock you may not want to burry it a ton because the covered area of the rock will decay without flow and o2.

no the rinsing doe not remove the bacteria, it just helps cut down on the extremely small particles that can develop in the handling/shipping process. Read the directions on any live sand and it says to rinse it before placing in the tank. Otherwise you will end up with a big cloud of particles floating around which would be a bad thing in an established tank, so rise it and place it on the bottom gently to minimise any cloud formation.

i added sand once and made a sand storm, one reefer sugested using a pvc pipe and funnal it through there, it was too late for me but im sure it would work well, good luck

omg dont call that stuff "live" because its not. my spit is just as alive as the caribisea stuff. you are better off getting normal cheap sand and letting you LR seed it with the bacteria. just rinse it well with water then use a cup to place it in the bottom.

Yeah, I'm kind of the same opinion. I doubt there could be thriving populations of aerobic bacs in a sealed bag with no food or oxygen.

You are probably fine adding it but make sure not to layer it too deep over your existing sand so that you don't smother the organisms you have already.

I like the PVC idea!

ooh well that sucks for me ha ooh well i guess you gota learn from somthing right? it will eventualy turn live though right?

alright cool. i just thouhg about it and wouldnt that live sand be like an amonia bleeding ground?haha its water sealed in a bag for like forever. dosnt make much sence to me ha.
