Youre gunna need quite a bit of sand, like 4 inches which in a 180G tank equates to around 200lbs, maybe 250. Whoever is selling you that Sting Ray should know that and should inform you of such in order to keep it in a "comfy zone."
I have 150 lbs of Southdown in my 125 and it is not even 2 inches. I would say your going to need 300-350 lbs of sand. I wish I would have went with something different as the southdown is suger size and it is hard to keep good flow without it becoming a sand storm but to late now.
I have a decent amount of sand in there. Spots range from 1 - 4" and my ray seems not to mind the less fine grade portions but I want some fine grain so he can bury himself a little easier.
