I'm buying a new 4gb or 8gb CF card. I was told to get Sandisk.

Is it worth the extra money to get the Extreme IV memory or will the extreme III be fast enough?

i havnt had any trouble with the speed it writes onto the Ex III. But i guess it would depend on what camera you are using and what you at shooting at.

XTI...i dont think you will have any delay. you might get a little bit if you are try to take pick of a football or soccer game and trying to shoot one shot a sec or more. but other than that you wont notice it being slow on the DL with the EX III

The Extreme IV is a UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) card. This is what makes it so fast.
The Extreme IV is not a UDMA card but is also pretty quick.

You can use both cards but your XTi is not UDMA compliant. It wont be able to benefit from the extra speed the Extreme IV offers but it will still be speedy.

If you dont plan on upgrading bodies soon, save the money and go with the Extreme III.

:)

Thanks. I got a 4gb Extreme III card on Ebay for $35 + $10 shipping. They are readily available there for anyone else who wants one.

Awesome. Just be careful about cards from non-registered dealers. I've heard of people receiving fakes that look identical (packaging, labels, etc) but are actually smaller cards.

Check the size when you receive it.

Thanks. This seemed like a big vendor, so hopefully it is legit.

I can't believe the creativity of criminals. Get a job!

Camera support is only part of the benefit of a fast card. Even if your camera doesn't support UDMA, if you get a UDMA reader on your computer you'll notice a big difference when downloading images. On a 4 or 8gb card it can be pretty substantial.

True.
The UDMA readers are also expensive. SanDisk's reader is a firewire interface and runs something like $60+ (or more, I forget) on Amazon. It would be totally worth it if you frequently move a lot of data.
