Besides live sand.. Or the over priced bags of sand at the lfs... What is a good sand to use as substrate... Years ago.. I used a bunch of heavy grain silica sand in my saltwater tank.. Besides a bit of a weird carpet alge problem... It seemed to work fine... Mind you.. That was 10 years ago

Dry CaribSea Special Grade reef sand has been my favorite. PetsMart online has consistently had the best price.

+1. It has been the only sand I have ever used as long as I have been in the hobby.

you could order real live sand from tampa bay saltwater.collected from the gulf and shipped by air, not cheep, but filled with life.

Silica sand is not the best to use as diatoms feed off free silica and you may have a continual diatom issue..

As stated the caribsea special grade reef stuff is a great grain size..

Petsmart usually has good pricing on it..

Sand/rock is one thing that you shouldn't skimp on.. spend the money and do it right..
