I am moving to Santa Monica in August and was giong to fire the 'ol system back up now that I'm out of school. Any suggestions of good LFS / stores to avoid?

Thanks for the info.

ps. if anyone else is in SM just send me a PM, maybe we can swap down the line.

PM'd you a good resource.

Reef Hot Spot is your best bet. Large warehouse with varied selection of fish and wild/maricultured coral. Max, the owner, is a good guy and prices are competitive.

Santa Monica Aquarium looked like it had potential the one time I visited.

Medusa LA is expensive and the livestock is hit or miss.

Beyond that, you'll have to travel down to the South Bay/OC or to the Valley for better LFS.

tong's tropical fish is on vermont, about a 10-15 minute drive east on the 10 from santa monica. not a bad shop. you could also try fumi's on pico, around the same area.

Also check out Nature Aquarium on Santa Monica and Yale.

Avoid the shop on 10th and Wilshire except for dry goods.

I would recommend staying away from the Aquarium in culver city. Bad livestock with bad service.

Reef hot spot is definitely a good choice for fish.

Also check out Jim's aquarium in El segundo. A little on the pricer side but good quality.
