Not Quite Right
This month’s meeting is going to be the best yet.

Just for starters we will have the monthly Micro-Frag Swap and folks are already lining up with some really cool stuff to bring in. Last month we had a table full of some amazing frags and most were gone fast so be sure to get there on time.

Then we get rolling â€"œ Tank of the month for November almost looks like a painting. Thanks to Steve Martin for volunteering to show us his handiwork and he may also have a few nice frags with him for the Micro-Frag Swap

Next, Kathy of Kathy’s Clowns will discuss the Banggaii Cardinal and its fight for survival in the wild. You don’t want to miss this presentation.

Then Kathy will share some of her secrets of raising Phyto and Rotifers that allow her to grow some of the most colorful clowns you have ever seen. I can always tell her captive bread clowns from others by the deep rich colors and overall healthy appearance. Many of the mass produced clowns you see in stores appear washed out and weak. We have also arranged to have some free samples provided by Reef Mariculture for the attendees and everyone can take home some Rotifers to try for themselves.

Next up will be a DIY on building a simple automatic top off system. We will go over the basics, the logic behind it and we will put together and test a system that will work in almost every occasion. Don’t believe the rumors that I have had 8 floods in my house this year! It was only 7 so I am uniquely qualified to show you what NOT to do.

We will wrap up with a raffle and the Micro-Frag swap then head off to lunch at a place to be determined.

The meeting was jammed full of great information and many people went home with new corals...including me :)

The business portion of the meeting was done in short order. Then, we were amazed, astounded, stunned, and bewildered by the pictures of Steve.s reef and his presentation. He had the most interesting approach to rotating his light bulbs....very unconventional, but highly successful. In addition, he shared tons of other great information about his tank maintenance, inverts, and fish. We could have spent the whole meeting just doing Q & A's with him. But there was much more to cover.

Kathy's presentation of the Banggaii Cardinals was very informative. She had great facts on their fight for survival in the wild and great pictures. It is a fight that is coming down to the choices we make when we purchase these fish. It is information every responsible hobbyist should know, even if you don't keep these fish.

I think at that point we took a break to peruse the many corals on the frag swap table and in the raffle.

Restarting the meeting, Kathy Leahy and Bob Branham gave a great presentation on raising Phyto and Rotifers. They are pros at this by necessity given all the fish they raise. It is not nearly has hard as I thought, as long as you feed them a little everyday. Thanks to free samples provided by Reef Mariculture, lots of people took home millions of Rotifers to try culturing for themselves or to just feed their tanks.

The last presentation was by Joe who showed us how to build a DIY automatic top off system. I think he said he would donate one to the club to be raffled at a future meeting.....yet another reason not to miss these SEASL meetings.

At the end, one of our youngest attendees, Mr. Shoemaker, esquire, pulled the tickets for the corals in the raffle.

The meeting lasted just a few minutes past noon. By then I was overloaded with new information and ideas, and new motivation.

I am sure I missed something in this summary....I never really refocused after seeing the pictures of Steve's reef.

The meetings this year have been awesome. It is incredible how much even us old salts can learn when we come together with a focus on education and bettering ourselves as hobbyists, in a fun and welcoming environment.

See you in December, eh?

Jim Craig

Sorry I missed that meeting. But I missed 3 days of work with the flu. Was not really up to it. Hope to see you next month. Paul
