There is no grounding wire and I've never used any meds until I used interceptor recently. All the equipment has been purchased new and thinking about it, I don't remember the last time I added anything. I'm pretty good about cleaning everything. I clean the skimmer collection cup every week, the pumps are removed and cleaned 2 times a year. I even remove the light hood and clean so I don't drip anything in the water. As for stirring up the sand bed, I only disturb what I consider a small area at a time just before I change the water. I somewhat think that the CC bed could be some of the problems at 3 1/2 yrs. old, but since the corals seem to be doing poorly, I'm not sure this is the time to remove it. I could be danged if I do danged if I don't. The carbon I've been using is made by marineland.
