Saying hello and a brief intro

I have been lurking on this website for several years on and off. About 10 years ago I helped set up and maintain a 90 gallon FOWLR tank with my father. This was my first saltwater tank and there were many ups and downs. I made many mistakes but I still really enjoyed the tank and the experience. Fast forward, I am now ready to start up my own tank. I have purchased a 40 gallon breeder and I plan on making it a mixed reef tank with a few fish and inverts. I am in no hurry to get the tank up and running as I plan to do as much research and reading as I can before I actually get started with the tank. I will however be building a tank stand in the next couple weeks. I figured this was as good a time as any to create a username and hopefully begin contributing to this wonderful website. Just wanted to say thanks in advance as I have already learned a lot by searching and reading past posts.

Welcome to RC!!!!

I would suggest that you read the stickies at the top of this page for starters. Another excellent reference is www.wetwebmedia.com

It sounds like you want to do this the right way, so read, read some more, and feel free to ask questions!!!

Hello! One thing I learned from maintaining my aquarium for the past couple of years is that it's easier than I originally thought it would be. I have kept the first corals I bought and just learn as I go. Maintain alk, ca, mag, and don't let nitrate or phosphate get out of control. Get an RODI unit. Get the proper test kits. Do consistent water changes and keep an eye on parameters until you get the hang of everything and it's pretty easy. I dose alk and ca every day in my tank and can check them about once a month and everything is right where it should be. I do however check about once a week after a water change.
