Saying Hi and a BTA question

Hi all,

I haven't posted for a while due to a crash last year and not really taking care of my tank all to well. Two toddlers due take up a lot of time. The first pic is what my tank looked like before the scrapping began. It took almost four days to complete.

I was glad I was able to scrape off all that coraline off the front and sides of my tank. Maybe next time, glass tank, not acrylic.

Below are my fishies saying "Hi!"

Also, here is my question, I got a BTA from Rich a couple of years ago, these are the green BTA with orange tips, after the cleaning I noticed they are white with pink tips. I think they where like this for some time, before the cleaning. Are they bleaching and if so, how long before they die off? I read somewhere feeding them should bring back their color. Here is a pic of the white BTA below.

Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
German

John from yourreef has sea urchins that will eat that coraline up.... It would consider that heaven...

Im having a similar issue with my gbta. What kinda lights are you using. Max from mermaid aquarium in frmeont sold me one of theres at WMC and said it would be fine under PC's... Im thinking otherwise... Im starting to feed my every day, So ill let you know how mine is doing. But from what I've heard it can take Bta's many months to die off.

You can take a kent pro scraper and just slice under all that super easy. I had to remove all the coraline from a 180 gallon reef recently and that scraper made it a lot easier.

Welcome back, German - haven't seen you in forever !! :)

Not sure about the BTA...what lighting is it under ?
I have a RBTA under PC's and its looking awesome (other than the fact that the Seio fell on it a few nights ago....dang suction cups !) So as long as you have a decent amount of PC's, I don't think that should be your problem. I'd try the feeding idea. I usually feed 1/4 to a 1/2 a piece of silverside about twice a week. After the PH issue, I found some frozen squid blocks at the LFS and thawed that...the RBTA LOVED it !!!!

Good luck, and keep us posted !

I see yours is in full light, Shilo is yours under full light also. My GBTA went under a tunnel and is in the dark mostly...Could that be a reason for color loss. Its not clear, kinda looks purple.

Hmm intersting.... mine is under 260wats 130 of 10k and 130w of actinic... I wonder if its just the food...

I didnt mean to hijack you thread. Sorry bout that...

There are NO white anenome......its lost its symbiotic bacteria....its in decline and will perish eventually......they hold on for months and sometimes a year or so, but will die from starvation.

A fact I read on another site said that most anenomes live for decades in the wild, but a "success" in the hobby is considered 5 years. They account this for most of the deaths because of insuffiecient lighting and husbandry. Anenomes are slow metabolism creatures.....most of the time, by the time we realize they are in stress, they are already in decline.

I went through a few myself and learned the hardway to keep them.....my latest......nearly a year and almost doubled in size seems to be going strong. That clown is about 2.5 inches long to get the scale of the picture

I will not keep another anenome under anything less than MH, but can be done under PC if you feed religously. I recommend feeding this guy once a week from now on and coax him back into health. He may be surviving at the moment, but is definatly not thriving!!! needs some TLC.....it would be a shame to loose after this long.

Once a day feeding is a little too much if it is accepting food.....they kinda suck out the goods and spit it out, remember they have a slow metabolism like a snake......If yours is feeding, twice a week should be plenty.....Doug

I was doing about once a week, but I started about every other day and now going on 2 times a week just to make sure it is getting plenty to eat.

Sometimes I see it get very small in the rock crevice it is in and then a few hours later it is back to normal.

They inflate and deflate to flush out and equalize

A good way to tell if it is happy is the mouth....closed and not gaping or open

And moving, none preferably.....

Twice a week should be a plenty

Just like with feeding fish, I think that mixing up their diet is important too. Think about what they could possibly eat in the wild. I mix it up with silversides, shrimp, squid, mysis, etc.
