Hey Guys,

Been a lurker on the site for a while and finally decided to get my hands wet in the hobby and actually build a tank! I have placed my first order of parts including an SC aquariums 50 Gallon Plug and Play system and some other goodies that ill share when they arrive.

I'm very excited to share this build with the community and look forward to your opinions and any help you have to offer. I will be posting updates as they come and hope i don't run into too many issues :spin1:

First round of parts are in!

Hey Guys,

So my first round of hardware came in including my tank from SC Aquariums! I am very impressed by the packaging and the build quality of the tank and sump. I was also surprised to see that it had three one inch bulk heads and came with two siphons (one was capped) and a return. so i think the pictures are a little outdated on their website.

(Could not get it out of the box as i was home alone, but more pics will come)

I was also impressed of the size of the sump and that it was made from 1/4" glass. the pictures really do not do this tank and sump justice!

As for hardware here is my current haul with more on the way.

As Cafe Reef stated the 500 GPH pump included was not going to cut the mustard IMO. so i got a Jebao 6000 dc pump, which is overkill but allows for upgradability and since it is DC i can just adjust it to fit the needs of the tank. i also decided on the jebao DC wave makers because of their price and thier reviews are pretty good.

The heaters I skimped on and just got 18 dollar glass heaters from amazon. Now I know what your thinking and trust me i wrestled with this decision for a while and here is my thought process. When i crunched the review numbers on amazon the difference between the Aqutop and say the aquian pro 250 wasn't enough to justify more than double the price for a single unit. "but wait" you may say "what about the shotty thermostat!" well i also got the reef keeper lite aquarium controller witch will be controlling both heaters at the socket keeping the aquarium spot on. now of coarse this doesn't prevent failure and that's why i am running redundant heaters. so that's my thought process and am open to your Thoughts and opinions.

I almost forgot about the light. I wanted an LED system without going bankrupt so i got a black box off amazon,(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UMXAR5S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
The reviews are great and only time will tell. Im honestly really interested too see the results.

Some other hardware still on the way includes a reef keeper light as mentioned above and a BRS dual reactor with the cobalt MJ1200 pump.

Thanks in advance for any advice you have to offer and i will keep you posted as i start putting things together.
