Scale protrusion

Anyone ever had issues with this? If so, how did you treat it?

I am reading that it could be a bacterial infection that causes the issue, but not sure how I should administer the antibiotics.

I had it...is there any red lesions underneath the raised scale?
If so-I used kanamycin to clear it up..
HTH

These two don't have the red sore yet. I think its still early. The last eating regal had it and the scales just fell off and never recover. Eventually, the regal stopped eating and just poofed.

I had two fish whose scales bubbled up and began to pop off after having lionfish stings get infected (that lion got around). I treated the first fish with Bifuran+ following the daily dip treatment, but acted too late because I couldn't figure out what was wrong in time. For the second fish, I moved him into a quarantine tank and treated the entire qt with Maracyn 2. That fish recovered.

any updates on the fish?
I actually took one of my affected fish to a marine biologist and had a skin scrape done of the area with the scale loss..Under the microscope @100x power -I could see motile gram negative bacteria in patches..
Then targeted with kanamycin...and all is well..

There hasn't been much change to the scale. I actually never really used antibiotics and the tank has a wet dry filter system. How does one go about it?

I did a fresh water dip and applied hydroproxide to the infected area. Didn't seem to do much.

If the wet /dry uses bioballs -you're ok. just be careful to monitor ammonia during the process.(seachem ammonia alerts).Alot of the antibiotics interfere with the nitrifying bacteria..
also make sure you remove any carbon or other synthetic media that might absorb the medication before you begin..

thanks Tuna.

Ya, i think it is the same thing as the one u had issues with. The problem is for some reason i can't locate the antibacteria meds that you mention.

I have triple sulfate and tetracycline. they state it targets gram negative.

Do you or anyone else think it will work?
