Scarlet hermit crab problem

Well I received a very large hermit crab and it has dine this twice to 2 different corals that I have. It has picked most of the flesh of the coral, I can't remember what they r called but I just wanted to know if this was typical. It has been transported to the sump

Yeah, that's fairly typical of the larger hermits. All crabs are opportunistic; I have seen emerald crabs eat frogspawn polyps and blue legs eat monti polyps. Any of them will eat corals if they run out of other food sources, but the large hermits are far worse about it. :(

scarlets from my understanding are supposedly one of the more docile, wimpier of the hermits, so If it's doing all that, you may have just gotten the bully of the bunch. I've never had much issue out of previous scarlets except for the opportunistic move to a larger shell when they caught my poor snails.

if its is a 'scarlet' that doesnt get larger than an inch its reef safe. any large hermit wont be reef safe. lots of hermit crabs are red, usually when somebody refers to reef safe scarlets they are talking about the small ones.

sounds like my rabbitfish. if he runs out of his food source(if i miss a day on the nori), he starts munching on my toadstools. i've learned my lesson once or twice!

I thought they were supposed to be the more docile of all of them. I feed a lot so I thought I would have no problem. At least now I know for sure there wont be any other problems since he is inthe sump.

Milo reef... I also had a problem with a blue spotted rabbit fish... He ate most of my zoos. He had to go.
