are scarlet legs Hermit crab safe for turbo snailsl?
i would like to add one in my 15G tank

I also would like to add a Green Star Polyps, and not sure if hermit would walk on and make it close

I already have 2 turbo snails but the don't really go on send just stay on rocks
I like hermit, look funny and i guess the move / clean the sand

Yes they absolutely are safe. These are the only crab/hermit that I will ever have in my tank. The blue legs are murderous sob's that kill for sport. Also the emerald crab is a killer too and will eat fish and corals once they mature. I've got many blue leg hermits and one HUGE emerald crab in my sump.

The crab will walk around corals and they will close up for a short time and reopen once the crab is no longer touching them.

Get a couple of Nassarius snails for your sand. They burrow in it and keep it clean and then pop out when you feed your tank. LOL looks like zombies raiding your tank. I've got several of the small ones and two of the big Nassarius snails. Don't forget about a few cerith and trochous snails too.

i have a mix of crabs including blue legged and emerald crabs, i also i have a mix of snails from turbos to nassarius snails, they are all in my 150 gal tank and the only thing that i have witnessed was a nassarius snail sucking out 2 crabs out of there shell that had fallen on there backs it was so fast, the only explanation i could think of was the crabs got caught in the middle of molting. i have shared this story with other people and only a very few people have had similar experiences, i have seen a video of nassarius eating a goby that must have been dying (i hope). Other than that everything has been great hermit crabs will attack snails for there shells if u don't supply them with bigger shells for them to grow into. Also if ur getting nassarius don't plan on housing clams.

scarlet Hermit crabs are pretty safe for the snails. I have a bunch of them in my tank. They grow big and very beautiful with the the long red legs but still remain peaceful.

When you just put them into the tank, they will just lie still and not moving for a few days. But they are still alive, don't throw them out because you think they are dead. They are still alive. It takes them 4 or 5 days to adapt to the tank and start moving again.

Ya now that you mention it they do just lay there almost acting dead for several days, then start moving slowly.

Make sure it's a Scarlet hermit before buying. Scarlets usually cost more than Red Legs or Dwarf Red-Tip hermits. Scarlets are very peaceful hermits and will mostly come out at night. If well fed, and plenty of spare shells, most small hermits will not bother snails. I have witnessed my Dwarf Zebra hermit eating bristle worms hiding in empty snail shells so you can't always assume the hermit is killing a snail. Dwarf Red-Tip hermits and Electric Orange Knuckle hermits are also pretty peaceful. Since I don't have corals I can't give info regarding any hermit species with it.

This is a Mexican Red-Legged Hermit Crab:

And this is a Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab:

I would avoid the Mexican Red-Legged Hermits. IME, they get really big and really aggressive. The Scarlets are both safe and beautiful!

Have to say I have never heard of this and have been keeping a clam with nassarius snails for a couple of years. Perhaps you are thinking of whelks which look similar.

+1 to this.

I have never had any issues keeping Nassarius snails with Clams.

That is a Halloween Hermit crab. It'll probably get to be about 2" or so. I've heard reports of them being aggressive and also some about them being peaceful. No experience with them yet so can't say either way. It's a risk you're going to have to decide whether you want to take. Fortunately, they're so colorful that someone will probably buy it off of you if you decide not to keep it.
