Sch 40 to Sch 80 fittings.. more leaky?

Hi all,
I have a new tank and have installed my bulkheads. I am doing a leak test where I am putting sch 40 plugs into the sch 80 bulkheads. 3 of 4 of these are water tight but the 4th leaked. So, I removed the sch 40 plug from the bulkhead and threaded in a sch 80 nipple and capped that nipple with a sch 40 cap. Now I have a leak at the nipple sch 40 joint. Bulkead fitting is now just fine.

My question is... do Sch 40 fittings not work as well with Sch 80?

In terms of leaks, no difference. Walls are thicker on Sch80 resulting in slightly smaller ID.

fyi...threaded pvc connections require "PVC thread sealant"..
Teflon tape is not advised as it tends to cause over tightening of the joints.

bulkheads should be hand tight plus 1/2 turn I believe..no more

"rector seal" is a thread sealant brand available at Home Depot.. just make sure it says for PVC.
