schooling fsh

Hi,
I have a 65 gallons reef tank with a sump and refugium that already has a few fish in it(Coral Beauty, 2 B&W Ocellaris clowns, a yellow tail Dansel and a Wheeler's Goby with it's pistol shrimp and a Fire shrimp)

I would really like to have some kind of schooling fish or at least some fish that would be active and swim in the open.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Blue-green chromis, particularly the blues, which supply a color rare in reefs. The bad news is your 65 can only support one, maybe two---if gotten at the same time. Quarantine: they're damsels, and they do get ich.
They have a bad habit of killing off members of their group if they feel crowded, so if you lose the #2 fish, don't replace.
On the positive side, even one chromis will race madly from end to end of the tank all day long and provide psychological assurance that all is well to many of your shyer fish. They get about 2" long, they're not aggressive outside their own species, they eat any meaty thing that floats, and they are hardy.

Oh and any other ideas ? Maybe some reef-safe fish that would be very active and swim in the top portion of the tank. :)

I just added 5 yellow tail damsels to my 56g. They're doing ok so far, and stay together, but I'm not sure if they really school. You could try to add 4 more small ones, to join your current one.

Or you could try Apogon leptacanthus - very peaceful and are known for schooling.

There are a few small cardinals which will shoal well (such as glass cardinals) in a 56g.Unfortunately, you won't get anything that schools.

Well i'd be happy if i could find some nice colored fish that would be swiming in the top portion of the tank and not hide in the rocks half the time.

LOL well right now i have a tiny Fairy wrasse that was sold to me has a Flasher wrasse and it's always hiding. Comes out to feed and that's pretty much it. So i kind of scared to get more wrasses and that they are more fish that hide most of the time.

Well as for the B & W Ocellaris clowns, they are always in their anemone and don't move very much. The coral beauty and is about half the time out of the rockwork. It's probably my fault. I've made the aquascape with lots of caves so my fish would have some nice places to hide when they are scared but they hide half of the time.
The Damsel is probably the one swimming out in the open the most. My Gody and pistol have made a hole right in front of the tank but get into their hole as soon as i get closer to the tank.

If i was to get a pair of wrasses, can i get 2 males or does it have to be one male and a few females. I'm not sure i'd be able to find females.
Thanks for the help guys :)

Neon Gobies, because they stay small you can get quite a few in yellow and blue and they stay out in the open, are active, and seem to hang around each other but not exactly school.

Or better yet, a pair of flasher wrasses.

+1 on this

Grab a pair or trio of juvenile flasher wrasses. Lots of movement and interaction as they sort out the pecking order.

Make sure your tank is covered though!
