Science Center RO/DI Unit Discussion

Hi, Dennis and SLASH team members,
Thanks to all of you for the help with the aquarium and the consult afterwards.
I've gotten the OK to order an RO/DI unit. Having gone on-line to the Filter Guys, there are several units to consider.
Would you or one of the guys look at this web site and recommend the set up to order? Let me know which one would be best and I'll order it. We have been cleared to install the unit, as well.
Let me know, also, special kinds of fittings that will be needed, if any for the plumbers to install.
We're on our way.
Thanks,
Suzanne

Awesome news all, lets discuss what would be best to recommend considering they have a green light to add one. In addition we have someone who is willing to donate an extra DI unit and lets discuss the Kold-Steril unit. If they have budget to purchase a full RO/DI unit maybe it would be best to go ahead and have the donations as back-up. I need to read up a little more about the Kold-Steril before I understand exactly what that is. Maybe we could discuss this as well.

I have a new DI unit with two departments. Can't return and would love to donate. Need to hook up an RO unit to the front of it or it will exhaust fast. I also have a Kold-Steril unit. We could run the kold-steril in front of the DI and they would have on demand water. Would be pretty clean water and I will donate if you guys can use it.

This is turning out to be a great activity and project for the club. Lets keep it up. I have more info to come about the project in general just need some time to organize and type it out and I'm always finding myself at work without my notes from home.

If Charlie is willing to donate a 2 stage DI, wouldn't the Ocean Wave Shell be the way to go? With an add on flush valve, pressure guage, and auto shutoff

That would work, I think we should give them some options too. That was the first time I looked at FilterGuys site. Cool looking frag racks too. I have an airwaterice typhoon III that is all on one rack. Depending on what kind of DI setup it is we might be able to piggy back the RO compartment. Charlie's Angel are you still willing to donate?

what do you think Vic and Dave?

OCEAN WAVE FIVE STAGE 75 GPD RO/DI
w/
Flush valve
Pressure gauge

float valve on a brute would be nice for them but not needed. if so we would have to get an asov
or

OCEAN WAVE shell if charlie is still willing to donate.
w/
pressure gauge
Flush valve

either way it will be a great unit for them. The add ons would be a nice addition as well.

My thought is the unit does not cost much new and I would rather see them with something that is sold as an all-in-one unit that the core folks understand. I don't think learning a new method of water purification is in anyones best interest in this case. A simple 5 stage RODI would be easiest, IMO.

I could take the point on this and help her order it if no one objects?

I agree.

I have a float valve for water storage I can donate. I think in addition to a storage container for saltwater we should try and provide a container for fresh RO/DI

They will need a dedicated source for water to the RO/DI and a drain. The drain could be the sink but, like we discussed the other day the source should be dedicated so there is no need to connect and disconnect the unit. Might as well get this done right since they're having room plumbed soon.

no objections here, give her a couple of options though. I like the RO/DI units that are on one frame like the airwaterice typhoon. Looks good and more simple looking. See if Filter Guys have something like that as well. I think an inline TDS meter would be good for them to check weekly without our help to see when it would be close to ordering or changing out cartridges. Clear housings so they see this thing really works and how beneficial they are.

I trust ya Nook. I will forward you her email.

Thanks

Sure Paul, where are you located at during the day working? or might have to meet you somewhere on the weekend. Vic might be closer up North if you guys want to meet up as well.

Thanks Nook

I work in Florissant, but live in St. Peters so if anyone wants to meet me somewhere let me know. I'm about 10 minutes from Marine Solutions. And work about 10 minutes from Beldts.
