Scientific Style 180g project

All,

This the start of my reef tank with a construction style that is similiar to a laboratory research tank. I plan on using only certain materials ( acrylic only, chemtrol TU valves, clear PVC piping, stainless steel, etc.) throughout the whole project. I'm trying to keep the amount of equipment inside the tank to a minimum. The overflows are my design, which feature the return line from the sump going through the center of the overflow. Kind of a two way street! It is not in the picture, but the overflow has an adjustable center tube where I can set the tank water level. The return water will flow out the side of the tee that is located below the tank bulkhead. The tank will also have a type of pressure plate at each end that will be connected to a reversable CL. Some of this is not necessary I know, but I am having fun designing new things and doing the acrylic work.

Nice. Are building it all yourself? Those overflows are pretty trippy. Not for me because I don't like the "caked in coraline" look and those overflows will definitely become coraline pillars.

Yes, the acrylic work on the tank is being done by me. I know what you mean on the coralline. I am going to try to keep them clean, since there is room to access. The plan is to aquascape with rock down the center line of the tank and be viewed on four sides. I've had the tank for along time and when I gave the manufacture the top cut out drawing it included openings for internal oveflows. Looking back, it was probably not the ideal design. :rolleye1: The next tank will be different and hopefully bigger.

What do you mean exactly by "the scientific look"

Scientific - Its just a term that I use to describe the look of a tank. A very well organized and planned design of the tank. Electrical and plumbing taking the most effecient routes. Also very little use of wood furniture. Have you ever seen a marine research laboratory, like the one in an older James Bond movie. Can't remember which movie it was though. I also have a theme that will be maintained on the plumbing. The use of Excelon R-4000, all Chemtrol TU valves, scheudle 80 fittings in gray, Spears LXT fittings in blue, and Black acrylic. Uniformity throughout the system might be another way to describe.

yeah...that makes alot of sense...and should look really cool!
