Scoly question. Please help my scoly

Just wanted to say that I've seen tissue recession on scolys where the skeleton was visible in locations with no other coral nearby. My LFS has a DT with this going on but much more advanced stages.

So other things can cause this in addition to stinging IME but I've never seen a definitive answer on the root causes. Although I've never owned one, Ive seen similar recessions on lobed brains. I think the CORAL RESCUE thread on this forum has some examples of saving some really heavily damaged specimims.

Yep, I've observed the large polyp coral do this on many occasions for no good reason. Another coral with a high mortality rate. These and meat corals have been observed shrinking until the skeleton is exposed and then... poof a goner.

Maybe it was stung, but I had this happen when there was no possibility of any coral stinging it, no aptasia. I was able to reverse it. My theory was that it was bacterial. It did happen to be in a very low flow area which was easy to fix, but not sure if that was a major contributing factor.
