Scooter Blenny Life Span

How big do Scooter Blennies get to, because my scooter blenny died today and I was wondering if it was because of age or loss of food or some other reason.

He was in a 46 gal tank with about 50 or less pounds of live rock. This morning, he was laying in the sand, not dead, but partially burried, not alot though. (He usually buries himslef partially when sleeping but then wakes up when the lights come on). And then about three hours later, I found him in the mouth of my Haitin Reef Anemone still alive.

The blenny is 4 and a half inches or 4 inches long. If he is this big, does that mean he is old and was readdy to die, was he sleeping into the morning a little longer, did he run out of food?

Hmmm... This is another sad tale of someone who wasn't informed about the fish they were purchasing.

A Scooter Blenny is part of the Dragonet family. These fish rely solely on Copepods for their food supply. Your sig says your tank is about 5months old.

These fish require a mature tank 12mnths+, 50g and about 50lb of Live Rock. The tank must be mature to have a sufficient amount of copepods.

Sadly, it appears your Scooter Dragonet has starved to death. For more information about keeping these please research Mandarins.

Ive always had good luck with scooters taking frozen foods. as long as there are no other fish in the tank to our compete it for food, they always suck mysis right up.

I'm not convinced that frozen foods alone are ever enough to keep a dragonet alive and healthy. I do think keeping a scooter or mandarin in a tank with an anemone is probably tempting fate in any event.

Tennyson, 4 inches is pretty big for a scooter, but I have no idea how long they live.

When i first started out i hadn't researched the scooter and when i bought it the guy who normally works on the marine section wasn't there so a guy who works with FW was there. And the tank had just cycled and the scooter thrived for a year on prepared foods until i had temp issues in the tank which led to the death of most of my fish.
