Scooter blenny w/ a Mandarin ?

Older newbie
Could I house them together in a 55 reef that is well established? I will want to move the Scooter to my 150 but it may be 3 or 4 months? Any input appreciated!:wavehand:

Yea I agree with snorvich. Why dont you house them both in your 150g? I have both of them in my 150g.

When i originally set up my 150 I did not have enough light or flow and the sand bed died. I am working on bringing the sand bed back to health and am hesitant to put a dragonet in there just yet. may just keep things as they are awhile longer. Patience is such a virtue.....

I know this thread is a bit older but I was wondering if you went ahead and housed them together.

I'm considering doing the same thing. I'm running a 60g cube and 50g ish sump with pods to spare. Also just installed a turf scrubber about two weeks ago and this will help maintain the pod populatioin as well. Yes the scrubber is in the sump, but my pump does not kill pods, I've had mysids go through the pump unharmed that were about a 1/2" or bigger in size, bristle worms make it through as well.

I've got the scooter blenny already, he's been in there, oh 6 months or so I believe. I've been keeping an eye on the pod population and he hasn't put a dent in them, just clears out most of the worms in the dt. But I did notice today that the worms are populating the dt again, no filters are begining to show their pros in my system! I've never had a dragonet and I've only heard about how much they eat, so would like some feedback.

I don't think you can put a gallon ratio on pods, it moreso comes down to what areas you have to keep your pods reproducing. Even so, I have a volume of roughly 100g.

In my case, I have a rockwall with a slight gap behind it, the only thing that can get back there is my very small cleaner shrimp, about 50-60lbs or more (diy) and didn't weigh it but it was definitely more then 50lbs at dry weight. Then I have another giant 40lb rock that I found a great deal on, possibly tonga branch or looks very similar atleast, those are the safe spots for pods in the display tank (60g cube). The sump, 50g ish cube filled to 4" below the rim, has the scrubber which will be steadily producing pods galore within the next two months, caulerpa, because I like it, and a dsb of 6-8". The sump is not your typical divided up sump with baffles and equipment compartments, it's more of a fuge design where it is also a cube and has no dividers, I did this for the maximum surface area for the dsb. I have pods on the glass of both tanks by the hundreds maybe thousands that are visible, again, that are visible. This leads me to believe that I should have a big enough population to sustain a dragonet, but this is just my assumption. Like said, never had a dragonet and I've only read story's about them clearing out a population of pods, but those story's that I've read were usually ones with no sumps and if they had a fuge/refugium, it was very small.

Didn't want to create a new thread for a similar question, looking for personnel experience of someone with a setup similar to mine and if they had success or think that I should be okay. I'll probally end up doing it anyways in about a month or so, to give the scrubber a little bit more time to mature. Unless someone with experience strongly believes that this setup wouldn't work for a dragonet.

This tank was originally designed for seahorses, hence the areas to keep a steady pod population. But, our seahorses didn't eat pods for some strange reason and passed away two months ago when they started refusing to eat, but that's another topic.

i've looked at some more threads and people are saying 1 fish eats 100+ pods an hour. and they eat all day long. keep in mind they will only eat certain sized pods for that size fish

Didn't know aboout eating only certain sized pods. Knew they would eat by the hundreds hourly. Thank you for searching and relating info also.

Looking further into the subject, I believe I should be good. I found a decent amount of reports of 30g tanks with plenty of rockwork, and being matured tank will be able to house a dragonet. In my case with the 50g sump being able to hold and share pods with the display tank I should be fine. It still won't be until next month that we'll be adding the dragonet but I'll update in the tanks thread whenever we do.
