i would never buy a fish online i have heard horror stories that they are deseasied and kill everything in your tank also you can see the fish in person at a store see if it eats its just safer and the stores benifit as well
Dude, that is humor, right? Kinda hard to tell without the smiley face. :lolspin:
It is patently untrue, and it should be easy to see that it is untrue. Where do the fishstores get their fish? The same suppliers that get them for the online retailers.
There is a problem here though - if I order an XYR fish from ABC Fish in Durham, and it comes in and has LLD, or some other milady that makes the fish not ripe for sale, am I still obligated to purchase it because I ordered it? If I am, then I am no better off store or online. If the store can send the fish back for a refund or some other correction because it came in missing its dorsal fin or one of the pectoral fins, then great. But if they are now stuck with a half-dead fish they had to pay for, that is not fair to them either (I'm not out to get skewered, nor am I out to skewer anyone else). I honestly do not know how a situation like that would work. Maybe fishieness or wetpet or one of the other store folks could tell us how that would work.
I am certainly NOT advocating online purchase over local purchase. I honestly do prefer to give my money to local people, even if it is a little more (not double or greater though, I have my limits). The upside is that I can see the fish, and I know what shape they are in [generally speaking] prior to purchase. That is a HUGE upside for me. I am not the caliber of reefkeeper (nor do I have the tank size) that would demand me to have to order fish in. And although I am still trying to decide what fish to put into my 65G other than my clown pair (thinking a few BG Chromis and ???), I know whatever fish they are will be available locally.
