Scott26's 90 Gallon Wave Front Build

ur a hell of a craftsman with that stand definetley a fan..wish i had the rescourses or the skill for that matter to do something like that.

So you are relying on just a couple small holes to keep from flooding during power outages? These holes can't possibly get clogged up with algae, food, or snails can they? I would like to see a safety measure for a safety measure, just for good measure. How's that?

Sounds like a good idea to me I will drill some more maybe bore then out some as well.

Thanks... Helps to have a friend with all the right tools. :D

Have you tested those 2 clear containers with water in them? My bet is that they bow out and swell a lot!

I have filled them and although I will never have them pass 3/4 full when full they only bowed out on the side about 1/4". If I see this to be an issue I will make a stand out of 1x3's to support them in the center.

Check valves and drilled holes both require maintenance and still fail. The ONLY failsafe backflow prevention method is an air gap. Plumb your return(s) close to the surface so with a minimal, very easily calculated amount of backflow the nozzles are exposed to atmosphere and the siphon quits. water cannot jump uphill so a flood is impossible as long as you maintain that extra amount of space in your sump to contain the small amount that backflows. In my case with a 100G and the returns 3/4" below the surface its 3.5 gallons I have to account for. LxWx.75/231 or 60x18x.75/231=3.50 gallons.
With a 30G sump thats easy to make room for, my skimmer works better with a lower water level anyway so I keep about 8 gallons of freeboard or capacity at all times even after topping off.

If its worth doing, its worth doing right the first time. Check valves and drilled holes are usually an afterthought when it could have been right in the first place.

I think that if I drill out a few more hole it should work out fine i will do a test to see if the system can handle the flow in the event that the holes do get clogged. Evenif the siphon breaks were to get clogged I believe there is still enough room in the sump to handle the flow.

please remember to clean the holes while performing routing water changes. Floods are no fun. Being aware of the the shortfalls is a huge advantage to being able to overcome them.

Very beautiful stand. Can't believe you took the saw to the bottom kerfed piece though.

MUST CONTROL ANGER!!

Heehee, very nicely done so far. Can't wait to see what you do to aquascape.

Who ever said that aquariums were calming never built a wave front wooden stand.

I am goin to try to lay out my aquascape on cardboard first. So that I can get an idea of what it will look like I want to go minimal and do some pillars.

I was able to install some side boards into the sump area for two reasons it was easier to seal off the sump area with kaulk and I want to put a custom controller in the right side of the cabniet and it should fit just right and will be hidden from view with the outter side panel on.

Anyway here are some pictures.

Let me know what you think Comment It Up.

90 Gallon Aquarium Rock Work

Filling the Tank

Filling the Tank

Okay well this is the weekend I am filling the tank with RO/DI. I was also able to get some rock work together I used some rock putty to hold them together but I am going to have to get some acrylic rods to really make it stable at least on a few pieces.

Here are some pics.

To start I was able to make a support for my Bean System Standpipes. This was made so that in the event that I am behind the tank and bump one of the pipes it wont transfer the leverage onto the bulkhead and create a leak or crack the back of the tank.

Then just for fun I turn on the non-antic lights to look at it again.

Then I started to fill the sump with RO/DI water.

I am filling it one 5 gallon bucket at a time to make sure I get an accurate system volume so that I can medicate the tank and do calulation accuratley on the tank.

So I have now moved onto filling the main tank which should tank the longest with my 90 GPD unit it should take about 2 days since I won't be filling it overnight.

Well I got the rock work in the tank last night as well as left some room for the displacement of the rock so I didn't overfill the tank.

I had a heck of a time getting it in there and right when I got it in place the epoxy putting I was using starting to come off the rock! Dang! So basicley I had to redo the rock work with out the help of the putting on the left stack which was kinda of frustrating since I was doing it in the tank but I finally got it all figured out am it is stable and on some eggcrate for even more support I think I am going to try and get some more water weld epoxy and stablize it some more.

Any way here are some pics.
