Scranton LFS

I'm going to be moving from Harrisburg to Jessup (just north of Scranton) and was wondering if anyone knows of any LFS in that area. When I move there I'm upgrading to a 75gal and will need some things. I would get them here but there are no stores in Harrisburg that I know of. If you know of one here that would help too.

I don't know of any in Scranton, but a little south is The Pet Zone in Pittston and even farther south is The Aquarium House in Wilkes-Barre.

Is The Pet Zone an all around pet supply store? How are they for reef stuff? I quickly looked at the website for The Aquarium House. I'll check out their site a little more.

I just looked at The Aquarium House's site. It doesn't give much information. Has anyone dealt with them?

Bill at The Pet Zone sells sw fish, coral, fw fish, birds (I think) and reptiles. He has a nice basic supply of sw stuff. There are 2 125g tanks and a 75g setup as reefs with corals for sale. He has the basic fish selection. It's a pretty big store with all kinds of other pet supplies too.

Chuck at The Aquarium House has been a sponosors for NCPARS swaps. He's a good guy, has a nice, basic selection of corals, fish and supplies.

What are you looking to get?

I'm not looking for anything specific. I just want to know where I can go to look and see if there is anything I want to buy and a place to get the basics (food, chemicals, salt...). Also a place that will know what's compatible with what as far as fish and corals are concerned. The only thing I have near me is Petco and they don't know anything. I went in there for a small pump, some food and a magnesium test kit and they didn't have anything I was looking for.

I have bought over 15+ fish from petzone, more than half have died withing 1 week of being in tank.

I have bought 5 from aquarium house, all 5 are still living today.

I also live real close to them(Pet zone) like less than 1 mile, the other day my Mag18 impeller broke while cleaning. Bill had the same one down there, didnt let me buy the impeller from the one he had in stock and I told him I would replace it plus give him extra money. I had the buy the entire thing. for $200!!!! lol I bought mine brand new online for 109 Shipped to my house. That is the LAST time I am ever going there!

Thanks for your input. I'll take that into consideration when it comes to who I give my business to.

unfortionatly up here your better off with local people and mail order theres dc pets but its.....ill let you decide for yourself how bad it is.

Well, my wife has an interview Tuesday with Sally Mae and if she gets the job she is moving up whenever she starts. I'll be staying here to get the house ready to sell and moving up in a month or 2. If she doesn't get the job we're moving up in about 2 months because her unemployment will run out and we'll be forced to sell the house anyway. Her parents own 2 houses that are paid for and we'll be living in one of them until finances are better. We're going to stay in that area when we can buy a house. She is from there and I like it there better than Harrisburg.
