can anyone give me some advice about getting scratches out of my 60gal (empty)plexi, thanks for your time

I have heard with acyclic its pretty straightforward and simple to buff it out with a little time and effort. There is a fellow reefer on this forum that used to sell scratch repair kits pretty inexpensively. his name was MarcDaniels. Super nice guy, but I am not sure if he is around much on the board anymore.

Personally I just replace the tank when it is scratched too much and have a new sump/fuge/QT. :) Then again, I am lazy.

If it's empty then you can use a torch, go to tap plastic and they will teach you how to do it, last time I visited tap plastic on Florin the manager used a piece of scrap acrylic, scratch it and then clean it up with a torch.

If you pratice enough time with scrap pieces, should be pretty ease on the real thing.

I have been removing many scratches on plastic lens (auto) for a couple of years now using NOVUS and a good buffer like a Porter Cable, doing it by hand would works just need a lot of time.

Those method are for dry products, if you have water then Marc have a better way of removing those scratches.

Wow, a torch?! That seems like an accident waiting to happen! Do you ever worry about deformities and bubbles using flame to melt the plastic? What about structural integrity, any issue there?

A lot of practice required to do this, steady hand and fast movement required. It's not for everyone but it's one of the easier way to fix major scratches. If any of the thing mentioned below happened then you're apply too much heat, hold the torch further from the object.

Same concept as when people would use cigaret lighters to get scratches out of music CD's that would not play.
