I scratched my wide angle lens. Is it possible to buff out the scratch or is this lens a loss?

A scratch, unless too deep can be repaired, but the glass must be re-coated, which is a process that requires heat which some lenses don't tolerate well. Basically if you can feel the scratch with your fingernal it is probably to deep to be repaired as the removal of the glass to get to the bottom of the scratch could possible change the radius the radius curve and render that lens useless.

Probably easier and safer to send it in and get them to replace the front lens element, but that's not a cheap alternative.

I know I've said this before, but it's worth repeating ...
A skylight filter is a cheap insurance policy against scratching and/or marring the lens elements and/or their coatings.

I know at this point it's hindsight, but it's a good reminder to the rest of us.

Good luck on the possible repair process!
