Screen Tops

Came home today to find a crispy blue dot jawfish laying on the floor behind my tank. I have a screen top on my tank made with 1/2" netting. I'm about to go to H.D. to buy 1/4" netting. My question is, will this be small enough, or should I go smaller? If i were to go smaller would it inhibit the light noticeabley? I feel bad, and dont want to come home to anymore carpet surfers if I can do something about it.

I have the 1/2" netting also, but I doubled it up with one layer offset about 45* from the other to make the openings smaller.

I have lost a flasher wrasse in spite of the cover, but I have some small openings in the back.

I ordered 1/4" netting from BRS after watching my diamond gobie try to jump out of my tank. I see no difference in the amount of light getting through, and it gives me some peace of mind.

It comes in a 6.5' x 2.5' roll.

I have a huge roll, of what I assume is vinyl, screen (blk) that I got for our back porch. The holes are probably 1/8th". Could I use this for a screen top? We got a snowflake eel this weekend and even with the glass top, there's a gap I don't like.

I was worried about light getting thru it as well as it breaking dwn from the intense light.

I used fiberglass window screen from HD while I was waiting for the 1/4" to be delivered. It still allowed alot of light through, but you could see the difference. I would compare it to a cloudy day vs. a sunny day when the top was on and off. Not sure if this is what you were talking about Justin.

Looks like you used the same idea as mine. i wish i would have built three small ones rather that a large one that way they could fit between the braces and i could remove them individually

i built three for a friends 180. they still are kinda sorta's. i'd like to make some out of acrylic. the window screen frame is flimsy/used the 1/4 brs netting.
