scribbled angel coudy eyes

Hello all. I have a scribbled angel in a hospital tank. He was in display, but developed some foggy eyes, so I took him out and put him in a 25 gallon Rubbermaid (36 long, by 14, by 10 or so) I have a heater in there maintaining 78 degrees, and hang on back filter.

I am using maracyn plus, which is all I was able to get. It says it treats popeye, ulcers, fin rot etc.

I tried feeding the first day I placed him in there, but showed no interest. He is not laying down, but more or less staying the bottom corner of tank. Question is, how long before eyes start clearing up, and to avoid ammonia issues, because I know this tank is virgin and no bacteria in it, should I feed once a day, and ten minutes later siphon out all uneaten food, and replace with saltwater? Or is there a better, less stressful way of doing it?

Also, with maracyn products, it says treat day 1,3,5, but how long before you typically see any improvement in his eyes? Also I read on some antibiotics, to double dosage, does that apply to maracyn plus?

Thanks

I've never used Maracyn Plus, but why the cloudy eyes would show up in a DT usually indicates a bacterial infection due to poor water quality; or Flukes. Directions should be followed and the treatment ran the full course if not longer. If no nitrifying bacteria is present then feeding should be strictly limited and change out 90 percent of the water every other day. You might have to locate some Furan-2 if the current treatment does not work. Espom salt @ 1tsp per 5 gallons often helps as well.

Poor water quality absolutely. A week ago my water was crystal clear, and then my uv light decided to short out. I have a new one coming, however, in the week the light has been out, the water has lost a lot of its clarity. Other than that, other fish are fine, and all parameters are in check. Nitrates 30-40, but with my setup, that's the best this tank will see.

did you treat for flukes that's what gives them cloudy eyes also .

I freshwater dipped him as soon as I seen the eyes cloud up. Nothing came off him indicating flukes. I have him isolated in quarantine, with marcyn plus as directed. I also have prazi pro on hand, I am not sure if should do the week treatment of maracyn plus first, then prazi, or run both simultaneously.

Also, I threw a bunch of different food in there today, he ate here and there, I waited ten minutes and siphoned every last piece I put in there. Its a shallow Rubbermaid, so it is really easy to spot debris. I took about 2 gallons out with siphon hose to get all food, and then replaced. I would like to think if I get 100 percent of it out, I shouldn't have ammonia issue.
