Hey SCRK!

The next Southern California Reef Keepers meeting will be Sunday, May 19th, 2013 at Age of Aquariums in Signal Hill!

Our guest speaker will be David Botwin who will show us how to build a DIY RapidLED kit.

My name is Dave Botwin. I have been an avid, if not extreme reef hobbyist for over 25 years. I currently have an 1100g reef system that incorporates a 400g geothermal chiller, a 250g outdoor sunlit frag tank, and a 2 story surge tank. (Live Web Cam "“ www.o2manyfish.com/camera.htm)

I have been involved in many aspects of the hobby from hobbyist, to retails sales, to wholesale importer of livestock, trans shipper, as well as helped engineer a line of halide bulbs for reef keeping.

I have spoken at different clubs across the country on reef keeping, coral propagation and skimmer technologies.

After being involved in several active clubs and talking to members I realized that while LED lighting is such a hot topic in reefing, and DIY is such a great bargain "“ People were afraid to take on the task of their own LED Lighting project.

So I put together a workshop that goes over the basic principles of electricity and soldering using a digital overhead projector and screen that allows everyone in the class room to see the techniques as I was discussing and demoing them as well as inviting people from the group to come up and try their own hand at soldering wires and LED's.

I am not discussing pros/cons of LED lighting, I am just teaching the mechanics of how any hobbyist with about 25 dollars in tools and some patience can build the LED light they want.

There will be Hotdogs, drinks and snacks, along with a frag tank for members to buy, sell or trade corals. So if you are a member and have anything you would like to sell, bring it with you. You do not need to be a member to buy just to sell. Membership is just $25 a year.

You don't have to be a member to attend the meeting so come on out!

When: Sunday, May 19th, 2013
Where: Age of Aquarium
2642 Cherry Ave, Signal Hill CA

Time: 6pm-9pm

Remember Age of Aquarium will be giving all members 15% off of all live goods and 10% off of all dry goods.

So if you have never been out to one of our club meetings or it has been a while since the last time you were out you won't want to miss this one.

Hmm, I am looking to buy this one right now but also looking at the WP-25. Very tempting, however, I have never won anything in my life when it comes to raffle except jury duty. Will the winner contact me???

Thanks in advance

Vu

One of our raffle prizes will be a Vortech MP10 ES. More prizes to come.

Anyone bringing any frags next Sunday?

Why don't you show up to the meeting and try to win it yourself?

I have bright red Monti cap, that I can bring good sized pieces of if anyone is interested -- No charge. Just happy to share.

Under led lighting it gets a blue rim.

Dave

What part of "try" are you talking about? I am pretty sure if I buy 100 tickets I still cannot win. You are very lucky on the other hand, maybe you will contact me afterward? I might be there, but I won't buy a ticket though. That is how confident I am about not winning. OK if I show up, I will buy a ticket to support mainly!

And we thank you and every one for supporting the club really. Without raffle money and memberships the club would die out really quick.

That you all.
