SCRK Potential Officer Candidates

So how is this going to work. There are people running for positions. Will it be based on votes? For example on the vp position me and Bobby are running. Will the members vote on it. If so I'm scared Bobby far more popular than me :D

Every position that has two or more candidates will give a 1-2 minute speech at the meeting to introduce themselves, hobby expierience, why you should be voted VP, Secretary, raffle, web master, etc... It's not about whos more popular or whos more knowledgeable. Its a matter of choosing who fits the position the best. You and Bobby make great VP's so Im not worried about anything.

A form will be created with all the names of candidates for people to vote and the winners will be presented at our 3rd meet. Goodluck!

Some positions only have one candidate so most likely that person will be the winner for that position.

Vice President
- Bobby Ortiz (Rort)
Over the last few years I have had the chance to be affiliated with numerous non-profit clubs, organizations, and committees. From these experiences I have had the chance to be President, Chairman, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, starting a few thriving non-profit organization, and learning to master "Roberts Rules of Order". I have tried to use my experience to help start SCRK by working with Tanu (Firereef) to set up our non-profit status, bank account, run meetings, organize meeting agendas, set meeting etiquette, and use my contacts in the hobby to bring us more lecturers, sponsors, raffles, and give aways (Aquarium of the Pacific, Icecap, Boston Aqua Farms, ocean wonders...etc) and a projector!

As far as Reef related activities, I am currently in college and pursuing a degree in Marine Biology emphasizing in Ichthyology. I will also be completing an extensive Internship over the summer with the Aquarium of the Pacific following my passion for Ichthyology. I am extremely interested in the emerging fascination with captive bred animals and am starting to try my hand at raising clowns, cardinals, and filefish. My current window(s) to the ocean are my 150g mixed reef display tank, 10g softie tank, 90g hex fish only, and my 30g breeder tank.

I have always loved being apart of non-profit organizations as it is a way to serve others and give from my experience to help the greater good.

Secretary
- Peter (Sinful Aquatics)
I have been in this hobby for about 3 years and still loving it. I am very knowledgable on Word, Excel, Publisher and other program. I am capable of typing at a speed of about 60 wpm. I am friendly and kind to others.
I was raised in a home with only brothers while I am the youngest. I graduated from a private school in 04 and graduated from another private college in 08. I am currently enrolled in LBCC.
I like to go to church, play sports, maintain a reef tank, and hang out with friends

Treasurer
- Jason Brown
Anything I can do to help I would happily take responsibility of. I am a Service/Account Manager for a General Contractor (Manage 25 in house technicians, dozens of subcontractors, scheduling, proposals, budgets, bid walks, billing, etc.), my Clients range from Starbucks to Petco to Restoration Hardware and just about everything in between including large supermarket chains.
As far as tank info goes, I have graciously accepted a spare bedroom in our home(from my loving wife) and we are in the middle of transforming it into a fish room. I currently have 3 new acrylic tanks(LFS type that I picked up from Ali @ Amazing Reefs, pics to be shared soon) set up on a Home Depot commercial type rack/shelving unit, a 48x30x16 or 48x24x16 1" rimless acrylic with coast to coast external overflow that I have ordered from John @ AA, RK2 bin for the sump(approx. 4x4x2), etc. This is a build in progress that includes the following equipment so far: Reef Keeper2, WM prototype skimmer, ATI 48" 6 x 54 power module, (2) fishneedit 48" 2 x 54w t5 fixtures, 150w de PFO pendant, Blueline velocity T4 return, etc.
I am very dedicated and passionate about reefkeeping (Unfortunately over the past few years I have been forced out a couple of times due to financial troubles, layoffs, etc.)

Raffle officer
- Jason Clark (Zegg)
Current tank(s) - I currently have a 70gal rimleess barebottom, tek 6 bulb fixture, vertex in-180, 20/20 phosban reactor. I believe most of you have seen this tank recently RC or Socalireefs. I also just upgraded my 90 lps/softie reef, 4 bulb sunlight supply fixture, 75gal refugium. DIY custom stand with a 350gal FOWLR. Lastly, I have a 24g aquapod seahourse tank, just a pair nothing special about this setup. I almost forgot my 40g turtle tank.

I have over 15 years in hobby of keeping fish and 10+ years in reef keeping. I have worked for a LFS so reaching out to the many wholesalers, distributers, manufactures is quite easily done. I believe I can help make this club a success in the "raffle" dept through these connections, passion, and personal commitment. I definitely don't mind helping out where needed (put on events, frag swaps, and most important of all raffle prizes). I work well with others and always take others concerns into consideration for the betterment if the group. I would love to be part of something bigger and give back to the hobby that has given me so much. I hope that SCRK will allow me to help in making every meeting an enjoyable one and of course try to make sure everyone wins a raffle... (I wish I could promise that!)

Website master
- Jason Meltzer (Bromion)
I will run for webmaster. My info:
Jason Meltzer
90 gallon mixed reef
Computer science PhD candidate at UCLA. I have designed and managed websites for almost 15 years. Recent stuff: http://youngwinos.com and http://www.youngwinosofla.com

Membership Officer

- James Cobb (gonzo4reef)
In the saltwater hobby for 1 year.

Media Historian
- Michael Thibeau (socalmiket)
My current tank:
125 gallon mixed reef (mostly SPS)
recent pics: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=1766667
Why I would make a good media historian:
- Been a reefkeeper for the last 6.5 years, starting with smaller nano tanks eventually working up to my current 2.5 year old 125 gallon. My tank page is at: http://www.socaldivevideos.com/125reef/
- As a Videographer: I am an avid scuba diver, and shoot underwater video and photos. My work can be seen at www.socaldivevideos.com as well as my youtube page at: http://www.youtube.com/ElectrostaticMike . The music and editing of these videos was all done by myself.
- As a Photographer: I do not own an DSLR. But I can take pretty decent photos with my 12 megapixel point and shoot. As long as something isn't too far away I can take a decent picture of it. Samples of my photography can be seen here:
http://www.socaldivevideos.com/photos/
http://www.socaldivevideos.com/still.../ElCapitanWeb/
http://www.socaldivevideos.com/still...ery/index.html
http://www.socaldivevideos.com/Mexic...uins/index.htm
- I have very good writing and reporting skills (I work in software QA in my 9-5 job since 97) so recapping meetings (esp: if I have a recording to transcribe from) will be a piece of cake.
Thanks,
Mike
