SCWD in my Megaflow

This may have been done before I don't know but I had the idea yesterday to try to mount a SCWD and it's pump in the megaflow on my tank. I didn't replace the output I just added the SCWD.

I used a Mag5 pump and it slipped right down in there. Since a Mag7 is the same size it should too. I may try to replace the Mag5 with a Mag7 for more flow. I'm not sure yet. Here are a couple of pics. Let me know what you think.

Oh one other thing, if anyone does this, PLEASE be sure and put a couple of siphon break holes in the system. I almost found out the hard way about this. If you pull the durso pipe while the SCWD is in place, it will start draining your tank down to the level of the jets. And you have to pull the durso to set or remove the SCWD pump.

I've often wondered if there are any pumps that you could hang in your canopy that could be used with a SCWD upside down in the overflow. That way it would be a closed loop with no holes, and no pump in the tank.

Are those stainless steel clamps? You might want to replace them with plastic to be on the safe side. Otherwise, great idea.

Yes, you are right about the clamps. It's just tap water in there until I get it all plumbed the way I want so no big deal for now. The clamps under water are plastic and I think I will replace the others with plastic as well.

I wasn't crazy about the idea of adding an internal pump to my tank but it seemed so easy, I couldn't pass it up. I was thinking about doing a surge but it was so easy to add the SCWD, I might just do another one of those in the other overflow instead.

Nice...
BTW, you can turn the mag5 into a 7 by replacing the impeller with a mag7 part.

Really! Wow I will give it a try and see if I can tell a difference. I have an old Mag7 that sometimes fails to start. In fact, I may even have an impeller for it somewhere. Thx

OK, I'm a newb. What does it do? I can't find SCWD in the glossary, self-contained-whatsit-do? :~)
