I installed the SCWD. It works fine, but I swear, it is as if wood is is contractign and expanding! It is an awful and annoying sound. What can I do against this!?!?!

Not to steal the thread but:

How loud are these things?

I purchased one and am thinking of plumbing it into my closed loop. My pump is in the basement but I'm planning on installing the squid at the tank, just below the water level on the back, dead center.

Would i be better off plumbing it downstairs in the basement? The object for me is to not hear my equipment. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have had a few of them. they do what they are said to do (direct water) I have one that is loud also. Its been running over a year. I would mabe try to get it replaced. I would plumb the SCWD near the tank cause they are flow killers.

I have a SCWD that is quiet and works well. A fellow member of my reef club had two that were really loud. He got replacements from the company, which were also loud. He called and reported the replacements were loud, and the owner personally tested two of them to make sure they were dead silent before he sent them to replace the replacements. Outstanding customer service! I'm sure if I ever have a problem with mine, I won't hesitate to buy another.

I have one that I am working on. I cut it open to see just what is inside. Pretty simple gear reduction that drives a Drum. I am Modding it with 3/.4 inch PVC to see if I can get the flow restriction solved.
