SCWD - Switching Current Water Direct

What do you guys thing about using a SCWD?

Pro's ...
Con's ...

I know Sea Swirls and other directional devices are potentially better, but for $30.00.


I've heard they are loud. Is it possible to wrap them inside a towel or something else to reduce noise levels?

Mine is a little noisy... but I think the benefits are worth it. It just sounds like a piece of sand is caught in the gears..

Now I have a noisy skimmer, so I dont hear the SCWD anymore.

I don't hear my SCWD at all. I does reduce the pump output by quite a bit, and the bigger the pump the most often it changes direction.
I like mine.

I like mine. It feeds 2 nozzles on each end of the tank. When it switches the streams intersect the streams from my closed loop, creating great random current.
