Sea Apple

My wife wants a sea apple in the tank but I,m not sure if it a good idea, anyone out there with experience with them?

I have heard that when sea apples die or become stressed they can Nuke your whole tank easily.

They look fantastic, but man I'd hate to lose everything for one of them.

Just do what my boyfriend does...simply tell her you can't have those, just like when i pointed to a cowfish and was told they can ruin your whole tank also.

few people told me if you have a large system with good skimmer your ok cause when they attacked or get sick what kills everything is there guts they expell. i had a tigertail that didn't ship well and as soon as i got it acclimated and put it in tank it blew its junk everywhere and no ill effect to tank of course i netted up all the crap and tossed everything including net. i have one tigertail cuc in 75 and 1 in 125 with a large pink and black cuc. aquatic treasures had a nice lookin sea apple the other day.

DO NOT get one, It's a vertual time bomb in your tank!
Yeah, they look nice but when they decide to spawn it will destroy it. You just need one.
LFS do not tell you this. Its all about the $$ to them.

this is true in some cases....as far as the sea apple, as long as you keep everything in line, nothing will happen, no agressive fish, or inverts.....also once they find somewhere they like dont move them, they stress very easily.....we do have one in a tank with mantis shrimps no problems yet :) I know that I personaly tell everyone that asks, but they will buy it and bring it back after they read it online and then say "you never told me it can nuke the tank"......

It's my understanding that they release something in the water that depletes it of all oxygen so all fish die but corals are unaffected.

I found a thread a while back, after buying a pink knobby cucumber where a Sea Apple nuked a 400 gallon tank. Everything I have read says they are extremely toxic.

Yea John, they are refered to as the "beautiful time bomb". If it does get upset or die everything in your tank will go by by nitey nitey, and take the saltwater sleep at the bottom on de sand bed.

I've never have one, just did a very small amount of research on them, after reading the same thread ( I'm guessing) that Tonblogna was talking about, I didn't really need to look any farther for a reason not to get one. It's knida like putting a Blue ringed Octopus in a 10g open top tank. It's not the wisest move, but hey people do it everyday. Even though you've had it for a year now ( you are such a lucky dog you :) ) I'd take it back to the store ( or give it to either wewerehere or twizzlerman77 ) and be thankfull that you are a lucky old terd. :D

o and let it die in MY tank? ha weird thing is i was JUST looking at one of those in a store yesterday. but i already knew about them so i just looked.

Ahhh, and here I thought you weren't the sharpest crayon in the box! Guess I was wrong your learning eh. :)

P.s. That was a joke, please don't get all up set ok, see the smiley face----> :)

psh dont do that everytime you make a joke. it will make them less... laughable if you will.

but i DID get a yellow sea cucumber (i know the dangers really) and basically im thinking of just pulling him out and bringing him back. i know their toxin is mild but im sick of worrying about the silly thing

i would like to know how my name got brougt up..... i havent been begging for ridiculously out of the question deals (like a reg 125 for a rr125) i always offer to buy things and people are like well just come over and ill hook you up. so what the hell free stuff is good. i have only got free stuff from 3 people 2 of them when i just was getting started one being you and i posted " looking for cheap corals" you offered free and i had nothing to offer you coral wise in return. and as for the third and final guy i got stuff from darksilenttype all that i could offer was some anthelia and he declined... also he offered free i did NOT request anything from anyone...

simmer down skippy it was a joke......this kinda stuff happens all the time in slash.....:) and sorry to hijack but I would love free stuff lol have gotten free stuff and have given free stuff

ok wow there was NO reason to drag me into this. really. i didnt ask for anything free except for that one thread. and i only actually followed through with ONE thing. ONE. not to mention the fact that my tank JUST got set up. also... i am so sorry i tried to see what kind of people were interested in the 120. really. im sick of that for sure. SLASH (IMO) is more fun than SEASL. but THIS has to stop. sure i havet gone to the meeting but the forum does a good job at displaying personalities and im fairly certain that i did NOTHING wrong by putting up that ad. not to mention the fact that i have already had a few offers on craigslist for $400. not so stupid is it. All i had to do was find people that WEREN'T so skeptical of my idea. anyway with that point made i would just LIKE to know if i should remove my yellow cucumber and bring him back or is he even really much of a threat?
