sea cotton?

Ok I have stuff that looks EXACTLY like pea sized cotton balls growing in my tank. It looks soft and fluffy, I don't want to touch it though. Any thoughts?

what color? I have what is called Red Cotton Algae, but its much bigger...maybe yours is just starting?

its white just like a cotton ball

If it's growing on the rocks or other solid objects, it probably is sponge. If its floating around or on the substrate it might be excess food rotting in the tank. If its the 1st... cool, lots of life can pop up out of live rock. If its the 2nd, get it out.
