Sea fan for beginners?

Hi all,

I've always liked the looks of sea fans especially the blue and purple tipped ones. Is there a "beginners" sea fan? I keep SPS and LPS in my 100g tank currently with a few zoas and thinking about adding a clam or 2. Have 3 AI SOL blues at max 45% mid day.

Params tested as of yesterday with Red sea pro test kits and Apex

Nitrate: .35ppm
Phosphate: .06ppm
Calcium: 425ppm
Alk: 8dkh
Mag:1320
I2: .06
Potassium: 400ppm
Iron: .05 (low)

pH: 8.16-8.23 average daily swing
temp: 78.3 (seasonal temp controlled)
Salinity: 1.024

I don't feed mine(they are photosynthetic). I have them about halfway up under a 250w halide. As for flow, you can give them alot,I think they do best with a variable current.

With that species, Id suggest a med-high constant/random flow as well as supplemental feedings i. e. baby artemia, cyclopeeze, etc. Yes, this gorg is Photosynthetic and you could theoretically get by with no feedings but its not suggested as this species does have heterotrophic needs in order to thrive.

Definitely go with a photosynthetic. The nps fans pretty much require an automatic feeder setup to do well, long term. Your sps wouldn't like that and your nitrates are already above what most nps fans tolerate. The No3 would explode with the feedings they require

Alright thanks for the advice. I have 3 ai sol's over the tank. And a mp40 on the tank that's in reef crest mode until I get the module to hook it up to my apex to better diversify the waterflow throughout the day. I feed oysterfeast once every 3 days to the system water and spot feed if there tentacles are out. Also on a side note I'm carbon dosing with red seas NO3:PO4X I had the nitrate at zero for a long time but read somewhere that the ultra clean water wasn't to good for some of the LPS species I had or if I ever wanted to get a clam as they feed off nitrate in the water.
