Hi,
Could anyone please tell me if the sea fan in the picture is Photosythetic? I was told when i bought it is was and needed additional feeding. I am currently feeding it Ultra sea fan food, but i am wondering where it is best to place it.

I have looked on the net and can only find ones with red body and white polyps
The polyps come out in the light and not so much at night, at the moment.

Sorry the photo is a bit fuzzy best i can do with my camera

Many Thanks.

From the picture it looks like an Indonesian Rasberry Sea Fan (Acalycigorgia sp.). It is *non-photosynthetic*, and requires regular feedings. I would keep it in a low light area of your tank with strong waterflow.

These are harder to keep then the "red body and white polyps" gorgonians that you found on the net IME.

I also feed Ultra SeaFan. My specimen also loves Oyster Feast as well. When I got it it had some areas of dead branches on it. With regular feedings it has regrown most of the dead spots with only a few branch tips that remain exposed skeleton. The regrowth is slow going with these IME. Good luck with your specimen....they are very beautiful corals!

Here's a few pics of mine:

Thank you very much Rowjimmy, i have it in strong flow and at the bottom of the tank, but will look for somewhere with less light. And i have been direct feeding it at least 3 x a week.
