SEA is Closing

A fellow hobbyist was told by jmnazari that SEA on Campbell is closing and danfeig will be opening the speedway store with jmnazari as the store manager.

First I have heard. All parties involved are good people so I just hope everyone is doing OK on a personal level. Business is tough.. ... Business.

What josh said, I may be totally disgusted with sea and their management. However, Justin is a tremendous guy, an incredibly hard worker and honest to a fault. I truely hope Justin has doors open for him. No one at that store worked harder than him and Justin would be an asset to anyone that would be lucky enough to have him work for them.

No offence, and I know the frag swap was cancelled but this is your first post?
Anyone (danfeig, jmnazari) care to corroborate this?

If it's true I'm sorry to see them go but with such a small market, and how widely spread out Tucson is, I can't say I'm entirely surprised. I hope the new owners have better success.

When employees have to take an image of the coral you want to purchase (while your standing there with money in hand) and send it to a manager to get the price there is a huge issue.

Like I said in another thread, resources are very limited in Tucson.

Wow...really?

I wish Tucson could support a good B&M reef store, but it doesn't seem like it can.

It can, problem is we have three mediocre ones and this town can only support one good one. I think what's really killing us is the turnover rate. The people new to the hobby rarely make it very far due to crappy advice and LFS selling them anything they can. I've heard some pretty terrible advice while standing in LFS in this town.

The last three times I have gone in fact. I had to wait for a manager/owners to reply while I stood there money in hand.

These are all very good points.

While I have gotten some excellent deals in the past on fantastic acropora, I now just shop on line.

Find a decent price on parts A/B, any name brand, or even finding it, has been a nightmare. Getting bulbs, test kits.....

When did Rod's foods start costing 25 bucks?

I am sympathetic to buy local and really want to it just has not been in the cards lately (well last 2 years).

Well I am not surprised. Their livestock was minimal. Their prices were outrageous. Their store was dirty (not as dirty as SW Saltwater but still). Their advice... dear god I felt so bad when I was in there and the employee was telling a new reefer some things to make sure he did, which were WRONG. I HAD TO RUN OUT and tell the guy what to actually do so the corals he just bought and the fish didn't kick the bucket in 2 days flat.

Anyways I always like to support local business but not at the expense of gouging the client. I have been buying corals online now for 2 years. Its nice, you actually get a "warranty" or 14 day guarantee. You can't beat that!

SEA (name has changed but I don't remember) has improved a little since I was in there last. Any dead fish in a tank in store IMHO is cause for concern. While I've been to all the stores in town the cleanest, most meticulously maintained store is still GQ Fish.

+1 GQ is the best kept
