sea spry

I have a small sea spray that has a broken branch. This branch is just holding on by a thread. Since the spray does not seem to have roots, can I just clip this branch off and wedge it in a rock? Will it survive? It's polyps seem to be extended almost all the time. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not as the parent spray only seems to extend it's polyps at night.
