Hi there,
Once again, my name is Diana Quijada and I am a tutor in Mr. Rutherford's third grade class. I am also a student at University of Illinois at Champaign. Although I am studying to be a Physicians Assistant, working with Mr. Rutherford's students has made me curious about marine biology. They have an aquarium which the students help take care of. Along with that, they learn so much about marine organisms and other things many students don't learn at their age. I am sure that they don't even know how much knowledge they have acquired just by helping take care of the tank!! I have even learned a few things myself.
Let me tell you a little about the tank. It's beautiful with a pair of clown fish, some crabs, sea stars, anemones, and other organisms I am not really familiar with. There's much diversity in this tank which I love. I have seen how the students have fed the organisms in tank. However, I have also noticed that the sea stars are stuck to the glass of the tank. I was told that this starts to happen when the sea star is hungry and not eating although they are being fed which I feel does not make sense.
So, I am curious. What other things can we do to have the sea star eat or to make sure that it does eat? We wouldn't want it to die of course.
Thanks for your time!!
