I am new at salt water tank. I bought a sea urchin and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what behavior I should expect from a sea urchin. ex: How do they move? Do they move? How quickly can they move? Where should they be placed in the tank when releasing to the tank.

Mine has not moved but also doesnt look any different from when I placed it in my tank. I am wondering if it is still alive or if it was even alive when I bought it. I have a 48 hr guarentee. Does anyone know how to tell?

thanks

Well the spines start falling out generally. What kind did you get? Not sure what they all eat, but mine just ate off the glass mostly. Some eat coraline algae and other kinds of algae.

if it found something to eat where you set it, it may delay moving on. They extrude hairlike feet that pull them along. However, some don't move well on sand at all. If it's on the sand, try moving it to the rock.

I've read that Sea urchins, once the get big enough may topple rock structures. A sign of inadequate feeding is a reduction of size so just keep an eye on him.
