Sea Urchins

I just bought two sea urchins, but one of them seems to be secreting liitle balls from the top of it and they roll down. I can actually see them pop out of it. Does anyone know if this is giving birth, or a disease, or what this means?

oh ok. damn that thing is full of poop. LOL. ive been reading around and researching, and i see that people recommend not to put in sea urchins to a reef tank. should i worry? should i take them out? by the way they are white sea urchins. i dont want them to eat all of the algae and leave their track marks, i need some for the other guys.

It depends on what kind of urchin you've got. I've got a pincushion that has proven to be a model citizen. Sometimes they're white, so that could be what you've got.

Why don't you post a picture so someone can id what yours is.

You'll get mixed views on urchins in general. Some swear by them. Pincushions and tuxedo urchins seem to do a good job eating algae and don't seem to eat corals. However, pincushions will knock things over and pick up small frags and carry them around the tank. Long-spine diademmas are thought to be reef safe, but they get really big really fast in good conditions.
