Seachem Metroplex for Ich

Hello all,

I have a bout of Ich going on in the tank, and I went to my fish store (a real one, giant warehouse of fish in the back with a Dr. of Animal Husbandry on staff).

I explained to them my problem, and that I would not be able to remove my fish because it would result in dismantling my tank.

They suggested that I use Seachem Metroplex to treat the problem internally. I add a scoop to frozen mysis shrimp with garlic additive to make them eat it (They apparently dislike the taste).

4 days of dosing and I don't see white spots on fish, but I do realize it's still in my tank.

I used this method because it wont harm my inverts or coral frags.

I was also told my Eel couldn't get Ich, is that true.

Has anyone used this method with success?

The eel can have the parasite in the gills. You can fact check that by running a search on the forums if you wish. The metro may have killed the free swimming parasite but it could come back, maybe not as bad. I have not used this method which is what you asked. This is my opinion. I got ich, tore up my tank to catch fish and went fallow. I set up a new arrival 4+ week quarantine procedure. I know ich won't enter my system, well that's the theory I guess. I can't say something else wont.
BTW the life cycle of ich is that it drops from the host in 3-12 days. You could be seeing this.

MetroPlex is metronidazole, an antibiotic. It may contain secondary bacterial infections, but won't kill the parasite.

Metronidazole can treat some protozoan infections even though it is an antibiotic, but I think it is worthless against marine ich.
