Seachem Reef salt?

fwiw my DD tank measures the same dkh as the seachem tank so don't let the borate fear scare you off its a good salt too.

Lots of users use Seachem and have beautiful tanks (which is exactly why I chose to give it try) so there is no question it's an alternative. Do you know excess 11x or 4x borate won't be a problem long term? I have never see any report of either this is a problem or not but if Randy doesn't think excess borate is good, I basically follow and avoid it as well:

Randy has always been a supporter of IO and TM (just the regular version) but for different reasons.

I haven't had any issues with my seachem reef salt. Although I don't really test it. I mean, I dose for Ca, Dkh, and Magnesium, I mainly do waterchanges to help with trace elements and general system health.

Our club orders this salt in bulk, if we order enough it only costs $35 a bucket.

fwiw....I spent alot of time comparing salts at the lfs today...I as out of my reef salt and my D-D...

I get a killer deal on my seachem already and was going to go back because it's basically 2 for 1 vs D-D and I get great deal on it.

I looked at DD vs. Red Sea--not the coral pro and I tell you why shortly.
--Both say "made in Israel"
--Both buckets are identical--material, printing of pics/info (red sea is a little shorter but still 23kg
--DD's #s look better until you look at the Red Sea to see that the #s are a little lower, but the DD is done at 35.5 and the Red Sea's advertised #s are at 33.5--if you mix to 35.5--guess what? DD #s ON THE NOSE!!!
--both are in bags in buckets with lot # stickers on it.
--RS is half $ of DD!

Stayed away from RSCP because at 33.5 it advertises 12.7 dkh which would be about 14 at 35.5!!!!

I got my 2 buckets of salt Seachem and Red Sea--$30 cheaper than Seachem and DD run me....

I'll throw my two cents in here. I used Seachem Reef Salt for a year and liked it. Every January I buy a years supply of salt mix and it just so happened last year (2010) I got a better bulk rate on Seachem. I never had any problems with it. The Alk is on the low side and may be an issue for people who do large water changes on small systems if they're attempting to keep their Alk >8 degrees. I change approx 10% system water per week and never noticed a problem.

It's a good product.

Shoot I hope the alk is not 14 in the Coral Pro I get. I already ordered it. Well I will see. You know its weird no LFS carry the normal Red Sea since Coral Pro came out.

I used coral pro for the longest great calcium alk and oh after mixing.

It advertises 12.7 at 33.5ppt on the bucket!!!!!

I had all three side by side with the co-owner as I showed all the similarities between the DD and Red Sea buckets, lids, actual feel of the bucket all the same.

Reg Red Sea has "Great ULNS sps salt" on the bucket too!

I'll be doing my standard 3 cups/5gal to give me .25-.26
