Seachem reefsalt discontinued.....which salt to switch over to?

Hey all, been using seachem reefsalt for the past 10 years or so and was surprised they weren't in stock at Neptune's yesterday. Picked up a bucket of Red Sea coral pro and now I'm a little hesitant in using it after finding inconsistent parameter readings from other threads. I saw they had fritz in stock but I never really heard of the brand until I started doing some research on salts this morning.

Anyone have personal experience with the RSCP or Fritz? Do I need to worry about the RSCP?

TIA

I was using Seachem as well. I tried Fritz and a lot of folks have had good experiences with it, but it has to be used in a fairly narrow window (like many salts with organics) or it's parameters change. I then checked with a bunch of folks that have had very successful SPS tanks for 10 years plus and everyone I talked all used the same thing -- Reef Crystals. It's consistent. You can mix a batch and use it whenever and a few times a year it can be found on sale at $25.00 a bucket.

Sometimes the simplest is the best option.

You can try Coralife if it's readily available locally or buy it from Dr Fosters, it's cheaper than RC and I find it's parameters to be better than RC mainly AlK and MG. I found with RC I had to add MG to my batches.

Well, I gotta keep an eye out for those $25 a bucket deals! On Dr.fosters and Smith its $54/160 gallon. But yeah, I usually pre mix a batch of 50 gallons and store for a few weeks so a mix that needs to be used right away won't work for me.

Yeah, I was hoping for a mix that I won't have to adjust. Just mix and use like the seachem. All the years using seachem, I never had any issues with parameters. But then again, I always manually dosed the tank anyway so parameters from a freshly mixed batch wouldn't have been an issue.

FYI, I say the seachem parameters were consistent because the amount I had to manually dose was always consistent in order to keep levels up in a heavily stocked mixed reef.

I was using seachem and switched to instant ocean reef crystals, so far so good

I heard RC left a brown film when newly mixed and people swore There was something wrong it. Once ina while I had a brownish film on the surface of newly mixed seachem salt and I never had any negative efffects of the water. The only thing I did was run a paper towel over the surface to skim the brown stuff out and it was a perfect batch of saltwater. Have that issue?

so far no, but one time a batch of seachem turned the water yellow/brownish
still did water change no issue

Didn't know you're back Rommel !!

What's up Mario! Im glad to see you back as well! Last time I seen you On forums was not too long after you built my stand for the 100 gallon. Which I'll add is still top notch shape just as you built it to be. back in all the way?
I never really left, just downgraded a few years back when I had a big tank crash that killed almost everything in my tank. I was only able to save a few corals which bummed me out big time. The corals I did manage to save I still have in my daughters cube. Hopefully I'll be able to get another large tank up. Still in the city?

In the past I used reef crystals. And it did leave a brown sludge like substance behind. Then switched to Red Sea coral pro for a year. Great results. Same thing. Left a sludge like residue on and off not consistent. Now I'm on fritz from recommendation of a buddy. So far so good. Only been a month. Slight white residue left behind. Solid parameters. I make 50 gallons at a time and change water 25 gallons a week. So far I'm pleased with fritz but still early to tell.

Still dry on this end, just linger around, mainly on BAR; do have a tank now but is a slow process and most important making sure the time is right to start again.
I used to mix Seachem Reef Salt, liked it a lot but it was discontinued, now I'm hoarding some Reef Crystals buckets, that was the salt we used to mix before switching to Seachem and it was OK.
Some people speak good of Fritz.
